Apple Day!

Posted in General

Today it is National Apple Day, so we plan, as we did last year, to celebrate the Great British Apple for the rest of the week.  We have just purchased some delicious local apple juice, from Combemere Abbey, near Burleydam, Whitchurch, pressed from their own apples, which will be available to taste.  Also on taste will be the produce of another new Cheshire supplier: apple-based chutneys from Clippy’s Apples.  “Clippy”  (so called because of her love of hairclips, apparently!) created all the recipes herself at home and creates awareness through her produce of the decline of the English orchard (we have lost over half of the orchards in this country since the 1970’s).

In addition to the delicious Cox’s and Bramley apples that we sell, we also have some cooking apples for sale at the moment that are from the village.  All proceeds from the sale of these local apples will go to the local First Responders.

Game on!

As the shooting season is now upon us, we are starting to stock some fabulous game in our shop.  At the moment, we have whole pheasants, wonderful venison plus delicious boned pheasant stuffed with plum and ginger.  All are ideal for a seasonal treat of a roast or casserole dinner.

British Food Fortnight Revisited

Posted in General

A big thank you to all who came along and enjoyed our British Food Fortnight celebrations.  The Tasting was, as ever, very well received by all.  It always makes us proud to “fly the flag” for not just Great British produce, but also for the great products that are made in our own area, and the local cheeses, apple chutneys, local bread and home-made jams were all very popular.  A huge thank you to Paul, who cooks Terry’s own made burgers and sausage so well, and of course to Tim Dobson, who had a very good response to his goat steaks, burgers and sausage.  Many of our customers had not tried goat and kid meat before and were greatly impressed.  We now have another date in the diary for our next Tasting event….details to follow!
